February is the birth month of
Charles Dickens, so I usually celebrate it by reading Dickens in February. This
year it will be for Nicholas Nickleby, and I invite you all to join me
in:
My original plan is to read it in
February, but after breaking down the chapters (and there are 70 of them!), I
decided to stretch it through the 2nd week of March, making it a six weeks event.
This way, I believe, we can read quite leisurely, without pressure.
I will try to post one update each weekend, summarizing the chapters we have read, and maybe with one or two topics to discuss, but I don't make any promises, as it will depend on how busy I will be; but at least I'll try! 😊
Without further ado, here is our time frame:
I will be reading from Wordsworth
Classics edition, and my copy has 769 pages, meaning I will have to read about
130-ish pages each week 😱. I really doubt I can
catch up with that pace, but let's see! Having buddies to read with helps a
lot, I hope!
How to join?
- Please comment below if you'd like to participate. Or you can mention me on Twitter using hashtag: #NicholasNickleby2021.
- You are welcomed to post about this readalong in your blog/social media, but it's okay if you don't feel like it.
- I will publish a kick-off post on February 1st with a linky, where you can put links of your blog posts during the readalong.
- You may post as often as possible (updates, thoughts, quotations, review, wrap-up, etc) either on blog or Twitter. For Twitter, please use #NicholasNickleby2021 hashtag.
- Last but not least: READ (or Reread) and ENJOY!
Hmmm...this is tempting! I was sort of thinking of Tale of Two Cities as my next Dickens, which I haven't read since high school, but it's been a very long time since I read Nicholas Nickleby, too. I'll see how I feel on Feb. 1, but I might be there!
ReplyDeleteHope you'd decide to give it a go, Reese! :)
DeleteI'm going to join although I might not be able to keep up the pace. However the turtle will plod across the finish line at some point! Thanks for hosting, Fanda!
ReplyDeleteMore than acceptable, Cleo! I myself isn't really sure whether I'd be keeping up with the pace. But more importantly, we will start it! :)
DeleteI have a full plate, but I'll check and see if my library has a copy. If so, I maaaay join. :)
ReplyDeleteSo is my plate right now, Stephen! But I can't resist to have reading buddies! I heard a lot of praises on this book, and I love Dickens. So, hopefully it's more fun than pressure.
DeleteI'm in. By the way, I shall be reading the very copy of Nicholas Nickleby that I won through one of your reading challenges. It was either a History Challenge or something to do with Dickens, but I cannot remember. :( Finally, I am going to do this!
ReplyDeleteYay, thanks Ruth for joining me!
DeleteWow, it's been a century ago, I guess.. :P My copy is the second one. That is, I owned one with a movie-cover (mass paperback) long time ago - didn't read it for years, than found this one (bigger size), so I bought this and sold the old one. And it still sat on my shelf years before I finally take it down last week. So, as you said.... FINALLY! :)
I am seriously considering this, because, as I told Ruth in a Great Book Study, I've had the book and I really should read it.
ReplyDeleteHi Sharon, would love it if you could join us! :)
DeleteOoh. Sounds very tempting!!
ReplyDeleteHope you'd be tempted enough to join us! 😉
DeleteThis is tempting, Fanda. I'd been thinking I might want to read some Dickens this year. I'll have to see if I have a copy / if I can catch up with all my current reading, but it's definitely under consideration!
ReplyDeleteHope we will tempt you enough to join us, Amanda! :)
DeleteWould love to join in.
ReplyDeleteHi Mallika! I'd love to read along with you ^_^
DeleteI've already been sharing Nickelby quotes on my blog this month--just coincidence, before I came across the readalong. Haven't read this for ages so am really looking forward
DeleteWhat is your blog's link? I might want to check it out!
DeleteHere: https://potpourri2015.wordpress.com/
DeleteI've been wanting to reread this one anyway. I'm in!
ReplyDeleteWelcome on board, Gina! Thanks for joining.
