Classic Club Spin # 32 #CCSpin

UPDATED

I haven’t done CC Spin for quite a long while, but now I’m more than ready to shake up the beginning-of-year-reading. Let’s do it!

  1. Rural Hours by Susan Fenimore Cooper
  2. The Vicomte de Bragelonne by Alexandre Dumas
  3. Sweet Thursday by John Steinbeck
  4. Barnaby Rudge by Charles Dickens
  5. Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk (The Dancer) by Ahmad Tohari
  6. The Woodlanders by Thomas Hardy
  7. Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls
  8. Lorna Doone by R.D. Blackmore
  9. Dandelion Wine by Ray Bradbury
  10. Under the Net by Iris Murdoch
  11. No Name by Wilkie Collins
  12. Middlemarch by George Eliot
  13. Casino Royale by Ian Fleming
  14. Mrs. ‘Arris Goes to Moskow by Paul Gallico
  15. The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams
  16. Eugenie Grandet by Honore de Balzac
  17. The Scarlett Pimpernel by Baroness Orczy
  18. A Room with a View by E.M. Forster
  19. The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie by Muriel Spark
  20. Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston

  • The list consists of books that are on my TBR pile, either in physical or e-books.
  • I have shuffled the chunky and lighter ones, so.. let's hope for the best!
  • Some of them I have intended to read this year, either for reading challenges I’m participating, or for my own reading events/schedule.
  • Some of them have appeared in my previous CC Spin (and didn’t get picked), and few were even entered for last challenges but then I changed my mind (sorry, Middlemarch!)
  • A Room with a View, I have started reading few chapters a couple of months ago, but I guess my mind was too pre-occupied at that time. Anyway, I’m willing to make another trial.

So, whichever gets to be picked, bring it on! I’m crossing my fingers for Rural Hours, though, so hopefully no. 1 will be lucky 😄!

  1. I have No Name by Wilkie Collins on my list too. I read it decades ago and know I enjoyed it but have zero recollection of what its about

    1. I'm glad to hear that! I've read The Woman in White & Moonstone, and I quite liked them, though not my favorite. Hopefully No Name is as good as those two.

  2. You have several of my favorite books on your list! Where the Red Fern Grows is amazing, though sad. Dandelion Wine is just fun. I loved the adventure and humor in The Scarlet Pimpernel. And Middlemarch and A Room With a View are two of my favorite classic novels. :D Hope you spin a good one.

    1. I am hoping myself I'll get Dandelion Wine or Scarlett Pimpernel, they seem to be fun. Middlemarch and A Room with a View are the two I'm dreading most. The first for the bulkiness, the latter because I've read several chapters and found it boring. Hopefully it's just me being moody...

  3. Oh oh oh Middlemarch, A Room with a View, Their Eyes Were Watching God - some of my all time favourites! Great to see your name pop up again Fanda. Hope you're well xo

    1. Hello Brona! It's good to be back to the blogging world, I've missed y'all! ^_^
Middlemarch and Their Eyes have been in my list a few times, but haven't got picked yet. Hopefully it isn't Middlemarch this time, though.. LOL!! :P

    2. Delighted to have you back - I was thinking about you this week as I planned my CC LIst #3 and which Zola's I could read in the next five years :-)

    3. If I remember correctly, The Ladies Paradise is one of the five Zola's you listed. I might join you, as I want to reread several Zola's I haven't reviewed previously.

  4. Great list, Fanda. I have only read "Middlemarch" and my son's absolute favourite in elementary school was "Where the Red Fern Grows" but a few of them are on my wishlist.

I always "recycle" all the books from my previous list if I haven't read them, yet. But your idea is also great.

    My list.

    1. Thanks, Marianne! Middlemarch is the one I'm dreading most, but maybe it's good if the spin pick it, that way I get to read it anyway. :)

    2. I can imagine. It is chunky but I love those books, they have the most to offer. So, if you get "Middlemarch", I get "Invincible Louisa".

    3. Now I think I won't mind the chunkies, because I can start it earlier, considering I have only 100ish pages left of my last book this year. So, I'm excited to see the result!

    4. I think the main reason I don't mind chunksters is because I read more than one book at a time. So what, it I need a whole month to get through one of the big ones, I probably read four or five shorter ones in the meantime.

  5. I think Middlemarch is pretty great, but it is chunky! I liked No Name, but it's not short either... The Scarlet Pimpernel is definitely a fun read.

    Hope you get something good!

    1. I know. But if I manage to read the chunky one during Christmas holiday, then maybe I can finish it on time.. ;)

  6. I will place my vote for Middlemarch. I just loved that read. But pretty much anything on the list is good. However, I haven't heard of #5

    1. Wow, seems you're all uniformly rooted for Middlemarch :)) Let's see!
#5 is an Indonesian classic, and I quite hope to get it so that you can get to know it! ;)

  7. I loved The Vicomte de Bragelonne, No Name and The Woodlanders. The Scarlet Pimpernel is very entertaining too. Middlemarch is a great book, but I can understand why you want to avoid it! Good luck.

  8. There are some on your list that I am not familiar with, but I got Their Eyes Were Watching God for one of my spins and liked it a lot. Lark read The Scarlett Pimpernel recently, and now I want to read that. I think Casino Royale is the best James Bond book by Ian Fleming. Each one in the Bond series is a bit different, but that one feels most like spy fiction.

    1. Casino Royale has been on my TBR pile forever. I guess the reason I haven't read it yet is perhaps I'm worried that it won't be as good as the movie. But I'm glad you think it the best Bond book, I shall try it soon!

  9. Looks like you will get to read a Thomas Hardy! Yay! I’m going to be reading The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, which you hoped for me on my blog. Thank you!
